Amazon Echo

I just ordered an Amazon echo with the primary intent of using it with Domoticz
From what I have been able to glean, there are a couple of ways to make it work (none straightforward)
1) Use IFTTT as the broker (i.e. Echo tells IFTTT which in turn triggers domoticz through the Maker channel)
Pros: Easy to setup and modify
Cons: Too many hops, possible latency or drops
2) Use the Alexa-domoticz bridge posted by beckdac on github
Still trying to understand this one though - TBH, haven't been able to figure out how it is exactly supposed to work
3) Create own Alexa skill

The intended use cases are to use alexa for
[*] Switching a scene on (e.g. Alexa, tell my home to switch evening lights)
[*] Passing command to a harmony hub to start an activity (Alexa, please tell my home to turn on the TV set to channel xyz)
Good to have
[*] Getting echo to report a sensor reading (Alexa, what is the temperature in living rom)
Would be great to hear back from Anyone who has done this successfully or tried a few options to arrive at the optimal solution
