I'm thinking about the Tenvis, but it's only vga resolution. I figure it will be fine for what I want, first one is for the garage.

I used VGA cameras for a few years (Foscam clones such as the Tenvis, a cheap real Foscam, D-Link), but was never very happy with them. The problem is that these cameras usually have this relatively low resolution because they are intended to be cheap. Therefore, everything else about them is cheap as well: inferior optics, no IR cut filter, no H.264 encoding, no audio, etc. It is probably possible to make a good VGA camera, but these are harder to find, and if you are looking in the price range where the quality and options are better, you often get Full HD (or even more) almost for "free".

Anyway, I found out that once you are willing to spend around 150 euro on a camera, you get much more value. I now have two different cameras (two of each): Foscam R2 (for inside) and Hikvision DS-2CD2132F-I (wired, outside). I like them very much, never had such sharp images and night vision before!

I must say that I only have them connected to Domoticz to send a snapshot when somebody is at the door. My main purpose for them is to serve as security system using DVR software (Blue Iris) running 24/7 on a server PC. In this software, I have programmed trigger actions which switch on and off virtual motion sensors in Domoticz. Works like a charm!

Has to be Y-Cam - this is really the best you can buy for the indoor use - either HD or HomeMonitor HD.

Foscam R2 sounds promising. I will check that one out. So can you "connect" the motion sensor in that camera to Domoticz, so that Domoticz sends a notification when triggered? Ex: an email with a snapshot.

I wonder if those Foscam's detect 'motion' or 'change in picture'.
It took me about 5 motion detection packages before I found a good one for the RPi. All the others reacted on change in light instead of motion.
Not nice to have hundreds of notifications on a sunny/cloudy day.

As I said, I use Blue Iris, but this has to run on a PC that's on 24/7. It has loads of motion detection settings, an so far I'm quite happy with it. The costs of this extremely versatile software package are low compared to what the cameras themselves cost. But if you don't have a server running it's probably not such an attractive solution.

With the firmware of the R2 (and I believe with all recent Foscams), you cannot set http commands as trigger action anymore. So simulating a motion sensor with those cameras in Domoticz is currently not possible without a special piece of motion detection software (such as Blue Iris) running on a PC or something similar on a raspberry Pi (what are you using Egregius?)

I also used 2 external packages (motioneyeos and the Syno Surveillance station) but that requires constant network traffic.
The 1440x1080 resolution that I'm now recording requires about 12Mbit/sec. What if you like to have 4 or 5 camera's? You'll use the whole wifi bandwith.

I recently bought a TP-Link NC250 since the service desk replied to me that the RTSP stream and snapshot function worked for this model.

but after testing... it did not...
the user/pass was not accepted, after emailing back and forward, explaining the issue, the ticket was closed, I should use the RTSP stream url... that did not work as it was where I opened the ticket for with the service desk... than I got an email from the headoffice? technical support asking me what the issue exactly was, so in a good mood replied with all details and screen shots... but never heard from them again...
