TZ88E reporting as unknown device

Hi
I have a Z-Wave network with a TKB TZ88E that has been working perfectly. Yesterday I took delivery of a further three TZ88Es from Vesternet and went to add them. One was OK, the second and third are not.

When I added the second of the new batch, it was reported as "Wenzhou TKB Control System Unknown: type=0001, id=0011" rather than "Wenzhou TKB Control System TZ88 Smart Energy Plug-in Switch" like the others. Looking in manufacturer_specific.xml I see that the TZ88 should be id=0001 rather than 0011.

Does this imply a change in spec?

Is it OK to just edit manufacturer_specific.xml and add a new line for id=0011?

Gareth

Garethhowel,

I would suggest to take a look at your zwcfg_0xaaaaaaa.xml file.
Open a log window.
Stop Domoticz.
Edit the zwcfg_0xaaaaaaa.xml.
Remove the sections of the two faulty units.
Restart Domoticz and let it recover the devices again.
Observe the log window
Compare after a while the 3 sections in the zwcfg_0xaaaaaaa.xml
Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion, but it made no difference.
I fixed it by editing the manufacturer_specific.xml and added a new line for the different device but calling the tz88 config file. It worked and all is well.

Hi, could you show the edited lines from your manufacturer_specific.xml?
Did you also have to exclude then include the device again?

Thanks

Yes, I excluded them first, then edited the file and included them again.
Here's the top of the Wenzhou block so you can see the context. All I did was duplicate the first line and change the id.

Code: Select all

	<Manufacturer id="0118" name="Wenzhou TKB Control System">
		<Product type="0001" id="0001" name="TZ88 Smart Energy Plug-in Switch" config="wenzhou/tz88.xml"/>
		<Product type="0001" id="0011" name="TZ88 Smart Energy Plug-in Switch" config="wenzhou/tz88.xml"/>

Vesternet have two models of the TZ88E on their site. One is gen5 and the other isn't. I ordered a couple of Gen5 models and they weren't recognised so I had to add them like you've done. Perhaps Vesternet fulfilled your order with a couple of the TZ88 Gen5s? They are about £7 more expensive, so you did well if they did. :-)

Yes mine is Gen5 so that all makes sense. After the edit is made, can I disable poling and still get all functionality?

Thanks

I've disabled polling and it seems to work OK mostly although kWh readings are a bit hit & miss. I may experiment with polling and see if that helps.
