Setup Domoticz

Hi all,

I am very new to Domoticz and need some info / advise.
(ps: if I have not placed this thread in the correct forum, please feel free to move this topic)

I am currently running Domoticz on a Ubuntu machine (14.04). Currently I am only reading my gas and electric via USB-2-Serial connected to the P1 port of the smart meter.

As I want more device to monitor how do I set this up?
I have read about RFLink but it is unclear to me what I really need. And if it is even compatible.

Here is the setup I have in mind:
The host will be place in a room (2nd floor)
I want to monitor:
- smart meter (Electric and Gas)
- water meter via pulse
- Boiler/heater via OTGW
- SolarEdge via ... (sniffing ?)
- for fun light switches (klik aan/uit)

So could someone tell me what I need on my host and what I need on the various locations?
I guess I need something which can send/receive on my host and need something the same on the various locations.
But how do I connect it to the devices? (p1 meter/ water pulse sensor / OTGW / etc... )

Any info is welcome.

Kind regards,

Ronald

Thanks for your reply.

So I guess most users of Domoticz use multiple hosts which a master retrieves data from (or data gets sent to master domoticz).
What I am trying to achieve is to build a HomeWizard system but with a minimum of half of the costs.

I like it very much what those guys from HomeWizard do but I find it very expensive. So I am trying this with open source etc.
Anyway thanks for your reply. It gives me better insight in how all components are linked.

I have a follow-up.

I see a lot of talk about Arduino boards.

Maybe I am mistaken but perhaps I need these boards on every location I want to monitor / manage something. I can then choose wether to add a Ethernet or RF module.

Right or wrong ?

I don't know if its right or wrong.

A have connect an esp8266 to my domoticz server and it works.

It is like the same as an arduino board. But it is smaller, faster, more memory and a wifi connection.

It works fine to me. I monitor the temperature at one of the rooms in my house.

I program this device in the arduino ide. Works fine. The code i wrote is simple 'c'.
