Main issue with 433Mhz and PIR is that you get no transmission acknowledgement, so for one-time events like PIRs there is possibility of missed signal - consider if its ok for your usage scenario.

At this stage I am just experimenting a bit with alarm systems without purchasing anything commercial. So any information / recommendations are welcome.

Let's try it out ;-) really curious about the performance of this one compared to traditional rfxcom.

At this moment I use the RFLink for a bunch of kaku dimmers and switches. I built the unit from the parts sold at nodo. I'm using the external antenna. Our house is concrete built and I have no issues with signal. The RFLink and Arduino are in the attic (zolder). I found that I can control not only my own switches but also many doorbells, swiches, dimmers of multiple neighbours

A big thumbs up for this project!
I have an RFXCom, but since it couldn't cover all of my house, I got an RFLink.
Works great out of the box, and it even supports more devices. I can now also use the temperature sensor from my TFA weather station.

Does this also work on XPEnology? I already installed the Domoticz package.

Hi,

I have intermittent issues with my RFX433E and range etc, I'm using an updated aerial but still have issues, Looking at the kits on https://www.nodo-shop.nl/en/21-rflink-gateway they look like the same aerials or are the boards more powerful/sensitive? i.e. with the same aerial I'd get better range?

Anyone swapped from an RFX433E to RFLINK kit for aerial issues and solved it?

I have both, and my reception quality is up a bit with RFLink.
I can even receive signals from a thermometer in my fridge which I couldn't with RFX433E.

Thanks,
Just to confirm are you using the kit from nodo-shop link or a home built kit?

Whar type of antenna are you using now ? My experience with 433 mhz is that a simple stiff 173 mm long wire works best. And is cheap

Yes, the kit for nodo-shop with solder service.
This excludes the antenna, but I have a simple one from a china shop.

All attempts of better antenna's for the RFX433E had no effect for me.

Ok thanks, I'm guessing the device itself has a higher gain/stronger signal then.

Just to confirm (was not able to find this info on Nodo shop or in the nemcon site) - the Nodo shop RFLink products like https://www.nodo-shop.nl/en/rflink-gate ... tenna.html come already equipped with the nRF24L01+ chip? So no need to buy separately...

To the best of my knowledge you have to ADD the nRF24L01+ yourself.
The item you buy comes with 433 mhz transceiver. or 868mhz depending on what you order.

This is how I assumed it in the first place as well.

But when I saw the post from Stuntteam with:
...So the hardware for this is in place if you got such a board.
I though it meant it is already equipped with it. Btw, if I need both 433 and 868 support, do I need to have two RFLinks or can I add both to single RFLink unit?

No currently it needs 2 RFLINK
- 1x 433mhz
- 1x 868mhz

The 2,4ghz antenna can be attached for mi-light via wires.. for nodo via the connector on the rflink.

I think one can order the nrf additionally.
The NRF includes an on board antenna, so you dont need external.

Ok, now I found the wiring page from the Nemcon site with some more details on this :) Have to ask this from Nodo shop but if someone already knows here: Can I get a fully working 433Mhz+Milight NRF with the soldering service (of course have to pay for the nRF24L01+ as well)? Or just the 433Mhz without nRF24L01? My soldering skills are not that good especially with the low budget equipment I have...:D

Last time I ordered solder service rflink 433 mhz
Had a separate nrf in a drawer. :)
Attached it with jumper wires to the arduino. (see wiring scheme)

Flashed the firmware.

And the whole thing is controlling my milight and 433mhz devices from within domoticz nicely.
