Perhaps it's an idea that the guys of RFXCom look to a new version with more HF power.

Or some hardware to place behind the RFXCom to amplify the power so that you still can use the RFXCom we all have. I think that most of us use the RFXCom as a transmitter and less as a receiver.

The RFXtrx transmits already 10mW and it is not allowed to use a higher RF output power.

Increasing power is much less effective than having a better antenna or a better position of the antenna.
Also with too much power you will get reflections which will result in negative behaviour.

Imagine, in the good old days I have ( radio amateur ) talked to the UK with a 100mw transmitter !
Perfect antenna's and perfect conditions. But mention it for you to get an understanding about 10mw just @ home...

Gerwin, I've sent you a PM. The range should be higher under normal conditions.

Gerwin,

Look for other equipment that might generate 'noise' of iron plates shielding the signal.
Make the receiver turn 90 deg , so different position. 5 mm left or right might make a difference.

Same for the transmitting antenna, turn / move and pay attention to for example central heating pipes or iron door frames.

Have a look on the path between those devices and see whats in between. Also, your neighbours could have a device generating noise.

Gerwin,

Good to hear you have better results now.

Hope you recover well from your hospital visit! Having Domotica in the home ,means all in control, even when you are not there :-)

To improve the transmission and reception of the RFXCom, the RFXcom manual suggests the following:

"Install this antenna on a metal plate of at least 30 cm for optimum result."
Page 61: http://www.rfxcom.com/WebRoot/StoreNL2/ ... _Guide.pdf

The theory behind this, is called counterpoise (wiki)

Make sure the antenna's ground, has a good connetion with the metal plate:
