[Choice for Domoticz:] Switching from my old unreliable 433 MHz based home automation system (caused mainly by that now severely overcrowded frequency band), I decided to implemented a significantly more reliable Z-Wave solution instead. And as I absolutely wanted a well reknown and totally open solution, Domoticz became the most obvious choice. So that's what I finally opted for.
[My role here?] Well... You're never too old to learn something new every day! And with 40 years in the computer software industry, I might to some extent (hopefully) also be able to contribute.
