The authentication method currently being used is available since years, for sure in recent stable versions.
There is no need to update to 2020.2 is you do not want to, all you have to do is make sure in your settings that the Normal Login page is used.

Basic Authentication will be removed soon and that is why application developers switching to this method.

We are working on OAuth authentication

Fully understandable, but one could imagine that http with port 8080 remains supported without any authentication for backwards compatibility.
I am happily running 3.78 with an reasonable sized zwave network, and haven't had the need to upgrade for functionality, and since there have been quite some zwave related issues reported in the releases since then, also haven't felt the urge to dive in the deep.

So some simple form of backwards compatibility as suggested would be welcome.

The new app's version (0.2.213) doesn't work. I have domoticz 10717. I hope this issue will be fixed soon.

In Domoticz - goto Settings - Website authentication - supply username and password and Authentication to Login Page, this should work, I am on a Beta between 4.10717 and 2020 and works like a charme

Domoticz 4.10726, app 0.2.214 (7369), Authentication: Login Page.
Three mobile phones cannot connect. Was working fine before the upgrade to 0.2.213/214.
App error: "OOPS! Something went wrong. Server error."
Server doesn't have any entries in the log (was logging incoming connections before 0.2.213/0.2.214).

Authentication Login Page + a Username and Password set??
Can you try to update Domoticz?

Yes.

It was all working before 0.2.213/214 app version. Domoticz itself is still working stable, it is accessible via the web using a browser, and also from Garmin watch using Garmoticz widget. It is only the app access to it that is broken. I wasn't planning to upgrade Domoticz, to be honest. I will only do it if this is absolutely necessary. At the moment this looks like an app issue, not the Domoticz one.

Thanks for the update @galadril!
It didn't work at first as it seems it is still trying to open /logincheck first, and since that call fails in my ancient setup, it still failed, so I simply created a empty file logincheck in directory \home\pi\domoticz\www which fixed that. 8-)
Tested this work-around on v3.8793 and v4.1062.

Tried that - still doesn't work, but this changes the error message in the app to "Invalid credentials. IMPORTANT: Please check if your Domoticz system uses Login Page as the authentication method. Basic Auth is going to be removed from Domoticz from the next update!"

Ok good to know @jvdz..

The best way is to update Domoticz and set the authorisation on Login Page and with a username and password.

If you still have issues after installing the mobile 0.2.214 update, and you don't like to update Domoticz,

Simply created a empty file logincheck in directory \home\pi\domoticz\www which fixed that.
Tested this work-around on v3.8793 and v4.1062.

Prerequisites for this workaround:
1. Make sure the LAN IP range is defined in the LocalNetwork in the Domoticz setup: Something like: 127.0.0.1;192.168.0.*
2. In the APP setup you simply use the Local IP with the HTTP port (8080) and leave the Userid and password fields empty.
3. Create the aforementioned file in your domoticz setup
..... and you should be back in business. ;)
