No need for MQTT when you have no other MQTT integrations.
No need for docker of you don't like docker (but z2m can also run without docker).
Functional it has no real advantages only that it does not make a lot of usesless devices for all node options.
Domoticz running on Udoo X86 (on Ubuntu)

- From the ui (user interface) updated the plugin
Then from the comman line:
switch to the plugin directory: cd domoticz/plugins/Domoticz-Zigbee
- set owner to pi: sudo chown -R pi:pi .
- go to the tools directory: cd Tools
- from command line executed: bash plugin-switch-stable9.sh --i-understand
This fails now, had to stash: git stash
again: - from command line executed: bash plugin-switch-stable9.sh --i-understand
Ok, switched the stable9 without errors
switched to the ui and updated the plugin -> updated stable9 without errors
Restarted the plugin in the ui
In the domoticz log errors: something to do with domoticz and domoticzex framework, both running on the same time
Rebooted the Rpi
No errors in the log
No Zigbee tab in the main domoticz screen -> Settings -> settings -> save settings
Ah, Zigbee tab in main screen
Can control Zigbee powerplug -> plugin works and actual version is 9.1.002
So, finally succes to switch to Stable9.

I hope that this can help other users.

I was able to switch to Stable9 before but ran into problems after that. In the Zigbee-Domoticz folder i found some files that had 'root' as owner so thats why i did the 'chown'. Also had to 'stash' because there were some local changes in some files. I don't where the changes came from, i was always to preform an update thru the ui.
Are you able to switch back to Stable8 (restore a backup?) and do to update again. Otherwise someone else (Pipiche?) can help, knows what it means.

Z4D is already on version 8.1, so that’s not the problem; the issue is simply that the update to 9.1 isn't working.
Thanks for your help and your reply; I hope Pipiche can look into this and provide a solution.

Fred

I have ask Chatgpt what the problem could be, uploaded the file 'check_stable9_migration.py' and your error into chatgpt, the answer was that there is an letter isn't a latin-1 code, with a solution. You could try it yourself with chatgpt.
This was the answer Chatgpt gave me:

Code: Select all

Ja. Het probleem is vrij duidelijk: je Python-script zelf werkt, maar de terminal gebruikt latin-1 als output-encoding terwijl het script een Unicode-teken probeert te printen dat niet in Latin-1 zit.

De fout is:

UnicodeEncodeError: 'latin-1' codec can't encode character '\u2014'

'\u2014' is de em dash:

—

Die staat in jouw script op meerdere plekken. Bijvoorbeeld op regel 158:

version_status = f"Detected Domoticz {detected[0]}.{detected[1]} at http://{args.ip}:{args.port} — Extended Framework requirement satisfied."

I don't know why i didn't have this error, i almost have the same system as you.

Thanks, I'll give this a try.
I never thought to run this by ChatGPT.

Another point to look at, wat is your region setting?
If you type: 'locale' (without the ') on the rpi command line, what is the answer? Latin-1 or utf-8? If it is latin-1 then that could be the problem. You can change it running the rpi config (sudo raspi-config, then option 5) and set it to UTF-8

Hi Rik60,
Thanks to your tip about ChatGPT, I managed to get onto Z4D 9.1, but unfortunately, the plugin stopped working after that. So, I went back to ChatGPT; I spent over two hours on it, but I feel like I'm just going in circles. I’ve stopped for now and restored a backup. If there’s no solution, so be it—luckily, it runs well without errors on 8.1. Thanks for your help, though.
Yours sincerely,
Fred

I finally managed to upgrade Z4D to version 9.1 on my test system using ChatGPT. I'll probably have to re-pair everything, but that’s not a big deal. ZigBeeforDomoticZ plug-in Admin Interface
Version 9.1.002

Hi Rik60,
After a review by ChatGPT, almost everything related to Zigbee was redone. I think I executed at least 50 commands from ChatGPT before I got version 9.1 working.

fredom@raspberrypi:~/domoticz/plugins/Domoticz-Zigbee/Tools $

Root cause: when plugin-switch-stable9.sh is run under sudo, the locale environment variables (LANG/LC_ALL) are typically stripped (sudo's env_reset default), so Python falls back to latin-1/ascii for stdout instead of UTF-8. The script's text contains an em dash (—, U+2014) and French accented characters, which don't exist in latin-1 in that context — print() then throws UnicodeEncodeError.

Try with:

Code: Select all

sudo env PYTHONIOENCODING=utf-8 ./plugin-switch-stable9.sh --i-understand
or

Code: Select all

 sudo env LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 ./plugin-switch-stable9.sh --i-understand

Hi Pipiche,
Thanks for your reply.
I’ve got it all working now, thanks to AI, and indeed there was a permissions issue as well—that’s been resolved too.

Fred
