Sure I am allowed to say 'it's working with Zigbee2MQTT' ... (as it does 99,9% of the time)

I guess the reason for this is that the other Zigbee plugin authors are depending on new hardware (I had the same issue with OpenZWave),
luckily the people from Fibaro and Aeotec send me the new devices before it was released.
I suspect the same is happening with Zigbee2MQTT, but if not, because the community is so large, it is way faster with implementations.

When people have issues with OpenZWave, I also recommend them to switch to ZWaveJS-UI.
(Had the same issue with the zwave.me software controller... they said it was way better then OpenZWave... But I only supported OZW at that time, and that was a good choice otherwise I had double work!)

If there was only one Zigbee controller implementation we also would not have this discussion and waste our time

So me (I) my vote goes to Zigbee2MQTT ! And being able to also do some firmware upgrades is also nice!
(And being able to use all my devices in lots of other applications is a plus as well!, even remote Domoticz instances as it's all MQTT based!)

I can understand you are frustrated having spend so much time for nothing (for you) on the Zwave part, but pipiche like what he is doing, and lot of users too, he have good return and is happy with that.
So no, saying "use another solution where I have nothing to do myself" can may match your state of mind but not his (at least not yet)

to answer your question @waltervl I recently had a chat with a representative from Bouffalo Lab, and they're really committed to pushing out more cost-effective solutions that can match the performance of the big players without breaking the bank. It's refreshing to see some innovation in this space.

Looking at the market right now, Sonoff is pretty much dominating with their sticks, and alternatives are slim—mostly just the well-known ConBee. Remember back in the early days? There were a bunch of options like Electrolama and Elelabs, but they've all faded away, leaving us with fewer choices.

I also like the USB-C and the serial connection which is at a speed that none of the existing Dongle are ( 1 Mbauds ).
The sample I received is very well manufactured , as the Sonoff by the way. There is also a Led (like what we had on teh Zigate in the past), which give you indication of On Network, On Pairing mode, which is always a nice to have (but I also know that some prefered quiet devices )

That said, the Sonoff sticks are beasts: high-power (+20 dBm) coordinators with external antennas, making them great for larger setups. The Third Reality stick, being BL706-based, caps out at around ~14 dBm according to Bouffalo's datasheet, and it ships without an external power amplifier (PA) so far. This means the raw link budget is a bit lower, but you can mitigate that with smart placement and a solid mesh of routers to extend the range.
If you're on a budget or just want to experiment, it could be a solid pick—especially if Bouffalo follows through on their promises.
