Hi, i wont be able to resell as i had to open it and install an external zwave antenna. Yeah that good is the zwave range
Do you have an idea +- how much it costs for this Intel Nuc?
Btw, its also possible to run a aeon zwave stick and a zigbee stick on domoticz? because i already bought some zigbee temperature devices that were running on my Homey (nicer looking and cheaper

)
This is running on linux / windows?
I saw i can still import the homey in domoticz, so i will see what i can do about that (maybe for the zigbee devices)
Thank you!

Like I said, quite expensive:

Of course you're free to change memory and SSD for cheaper models. Also the cheaper Intel Nuc I have appears to be out of stock or end of life.
The virtual machine is running Debian linux of course, what else?
Zero experience with Zigbee. If it's USB I don't see a problem. Mosts of the Nucs have at least 4 USB ports.

Now, what system do you advice to my to run domoticz on with aeon zwave plus stick?
Thank you!
My Domoticz is running on a dedicated Pi3 + SSD.

Every night a full copy of the SSD is copied to the Synology NAS for backup.
My dockers are running on a spare MiniITX that I had around. Really fun.
Friend of mine also has Domoticz in docker running just fine.

yeah 319euro is indeed a lot of money, again, but if it works good, then its fine for me

The only thing where i'm afraid of is, to install all that software like you say Proxmox and eg.
I don't have much linux skillz, so that's a direction where i will run out of option i think

i can do basic thinks, like to install everything needed to run your php-script
I also saw that the Intel Nuc you said has 32GB ram, so no need to upgrade the ram?

Hi Robske,
I installed proxmox for the first time yesterday. It was very easy and the website of proxmox has a lot of info. Even without knowledge you’ll be ok to setup a vm. Creating a snapshot is even a menus item so in short: you’ll be fine. If not you can always install esxi on your nuc.

All depends on what you want to do with it.
If you just want to run Domoticz on it you can go for the cheapest Nuc with a small SSD and 8GB memory.
But if you think that you might add other virtual machines to it go for a bigger disc and start with 16GB memory. You can still add more memory to it later if needed. Keep in mind that their are only 2 memory slots. Because I started with 8GB I'm now limited to 24GB, otherwise I have to trow away the first 8GB to go to 32GB.
The installtion of Proxmox is very simple. It's GUI based, basically you just need to click next, next, next and done

All the rest is then web based. Creating a VM is about the same. Next, next, done.
Another nice feature of this way is some statistics:

I really added lot's of memory to each machine to avoid swapping and let linux keep everything in cache/buffer.
For example, the domoticz machine:

Hello,
Personally it will just run Domoticz and that’s is. For more I don’t need it. For the moment I would not now what for.
Any Nuc will do?

Well yes. Any nuc is faster than a raspberry.

This one should be enough then to only run Domoticz? SSD also good instead of the evo?
i was doubting maybe to buy the one you say and run VM's on it, but i have a windows laptop, pfsense for firewall i dont need i think.
so i'm just wondering for what else i could need/use it? :p
Just to know that i don't need to buy that one after some months/years

so if i understand it right, domoticz is running on a VM and for example windows10 also on another VM, these VM's are running 24h a day? so if i go to the windows10 VM, domoticz is still running on the other VM?

Correct. VM's run as long as you don't shut them down. Multiple VM's can run together 24/7 without a problem. That's the main advantage of virtualization. Another great advantage is that you can use more of the hardware.
Imagine a single computer running domoticz. Only several 100's MB memory will be used and only some percent of the cpu. Another computer running Windows 10 will mostly be idle also. If you combine them in one computer you only need 1 hardware.
You can even assign more than the hardware has. For example 3 VM's with 4GB ram on a 8GB ram host. Proxmox will share memory between hosts and you won't even notice it. Of course you don't assign a lot more than available to avoid slowness.

Goddamned (flemish: godverdomme!)

i received my NUC with memory and ssd; i want to put it all together and my memory does not fit into my NUC.
I have choosen the memory where i only could choose, (from their menu of Coolblue) but i see its all DDR4 memory and my unit runs on DDR3L (when i know look deeper in the specs)
Bought now a DDR3L memory and will send back the DDR4 to the shop.
So it will be for tomorrow evening.

what i was wondering, what OS do you install first from usb stick?
will be linux i think? but what kind of linux?
and from that OS i can install proxmox then? then install domoticz on the VM linux side and install windows on the other VM ?
i work with VM's on my work but its in windows

(vmware workstation pro)
thanks for the help!
