ideas for Hardware page improvements

Post by remb0 »

I was looking at the great list of available hardware plugins and I saw http poller, but no idea what it is actually and how to use it.

So I have a few Ideas to improve this page.
for every hardware type:

category
- handy when the list is growing
-webservices / hardware / energy / lights / climate / security

a picture
-(logo, brand or thumbnail)

additional info
- a field where users can be pointed to a wiki page

requirements
- for example a PI, or an account @ ....

examples how to use
- a command?

I have been tagging the pages I edited on the wiki in the following way, but I have been inconsistent

https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Special:Categories

So for exmaple philips hue

https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Philips_Hue_Lights

(scroll to end)

Code: Select all

 [[Category:Hardware]] [[Category:Lighting]] [[Category:Protocol]] [[Category:Scripting‏‎]] [[Category:JSON‏‎‎]] [[Category:Lua‏‎]]
Samsung TV

Code: Select all

 [[Category:Hardware]] [[Category:Media]] [[Category:TV]] [[Category:Protocol]] [[Category:Scripting‏‎]] [[Category:C‏‎‎]]
I skipped language, and not know what to do with os... but atleast it will make the wiki more web-entangled :-)
I would be nice to have Category icons then ;-)

Anyway that would solve a lot of the searching problems and help new users discover new things. Like I am still discovering

The following list is incomplete...

Code: Select all

Hardware:

[[Category:Hardware]]
  [[Category:Appliance]]
    [[Category:Kitchen]]
  [[Category:Lighting]]
  [[Category:Media]]
      [[Category:AV‏‎]]
      [[Category:TV]]
      [[Cetegory:CEC]]
      [[Category:Audio]]
  [[Category:Security]]
     [[Category:Alarm]]
     [[Category:Camera]]
     [[Category:Keypad]]
     [[Category:Motion]]
  [[Category:Utility]]
     [[Category:Gas]]
     [[Category:Heating]]
     [[Category:Power]]
     [[Category:Water]]
   [[CategoryEnvironment]]
     [[Category:Indoor]]
     [[Category:Weather]]

Protocols:

[[Category:Protocol]]
  [[Category:MQTT‏‎]]
  [[Category:Bluetooth‏‎]]
  [[Category:HTTP]]

Scripting:

[[Category:Scripting‏‎]]
    [[Category:Bash‏‎]]
    [[Category:Batch‏‎]]
    [[Category:Blocky‏‎]]
    [[Category:PHP]]
    [[Category:Perl]]
    [[Category:C‏‎]]
    [[Category:JSON‏‎‎]]
    [[Category:Lua‏‎]]
    [[Category:Python]]

Operating Systems

  [[Category:All OS]]
  [[Category:Linux]]
      [[Category:Raspberry Pi]]
  [[Category:OSX]]
  [[Category:Windows]]

and you probably need somthing like (but consistent):

Code: Select all

[[Category:Guide]]
[[Category:Install]]
[[Category:Setup]]
[[Category:Manual]] <-- or domoticz
To let the user know what they are reading...

Or do you mean a forum thread with all the hardware?

Ok I added the info to the script page...

https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Scripts#W ... our_Script

Hope people will use it, will make the wiki more intertwined :-)
If anybody disagrees. Comment here...

And could someone update the how to create your own hardware guide?

https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Developin ... are_plugin

It's out dated and missing so much information. I gave up frustrated after an hour trying to doing something simple as adding one temperature sensor from the iKettle, and learned python instead to bridge it with domoticz (which was lots of fun ;).

donations welcome: sigarettes, more booze, shoulder rubs and ofcourse helping by editing your own script page.
