Question: Best Way To Switch Z-Wave Controllers?

Post by gcoupe »

I'm currently using an Aeotec Z-Stick S2 with Domoticz running on a RPi, and I want to transfer the whole Z-Wave network and devices across to an Aeotec Z-Stick USB Gen 5 with Domoticz running as a service under Windows 10. Has anyone any suggestions on the best way to do this?

I think the process would involve steps such as:
1. Take a Backup of Domoticz on the RPi.
2. Note the device numbering of the Z-Wave devices listed in the Z-Stick S2, and use the Z-Stick USB Gen 5 to include the same devices in the same sequence. Question: do I need to exclude these devices from the Z-Stick S2 first, or can I just skip doing this?
3.Once all devices have been included in the Z-Stick USB Gen 5, turn off Domoticz on the RPI.
4. Plug in the Z-Stick USB Gen 5 into the Windows machine, and start the Domoticz service.
5. Restore the Domoticz database onto the Windows instance of Domoticz.
6. Check that devices and events are correctly configured.
7. Uncross fingers.

Hi gcoupe,

Old thread but... I want to do the same, move from RPi with a Razberry controller to a Windows platform using a Sigma Design UZB Gen5 Controller.

Did you manage? I tried and was lucky in transferring nodes but it failed in next step as nodes Config file.xml was not cared for (restored) either by Domoticz backup or it was not rebuilt by contoller "afterwards talking to nodes"...

How is this meant to work? For instance if a zwave controller fails burns etc. how to back up and restore it on a new device?

Thanks!

TBH, I just rebuilt the whole network from scratch. Of course, this meant that I lost my historical data, but in my case, I didn't worry over much about it.
