Connect to the itron Ace3000 using IR

Over here an ACE3000 Typ 260 is installed as a smart meter. It looks like the only way to connect to it is an InfraRed connection.
Documentation is available in German: http://bhkw-forum.de/index.php?attachme ... dbuch-pdf/.

The interface is standard asleep en should be wakened by sending a sequence of characters, see the docs. You can order an interface in this site: http://wiki.volkszaehler.org/hardware/c ... tl-ausgang.

But will it work? Are there experiences with this smart meter?
