Suggestion: Z-Wave device management improvements

Post by dhanjel »

This is an extracted part from viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12111 (can be closed if possible), to provide a more precise improvement suggestion regarding z-wave device management.

Improvement when adding a new z-wave device
  • When adding a node, instead of beeing redirected to the node list, a dialog appears where the user can set the name and room for the node.
  • All devices associated to that node that is created in the process, will get the same name and room by default.
  • The Room name will also be set in the z-wave control panel (Today only name is transferred)
  • All devices must be assigned to a room. If no room is selected, they are added to a room called "Unassigned".
  • Group a node's devices in a more clear way on the Device tab, this will make it easier to administrate z-wave hardware with a lot of virtual devices, such as Fibaro Motion Sensor. Something like this:

I like the idea.
Sometimes I get lost in the device list. If would be easier if the devices are grouped, for instance, grouping all devices in one node (a node with relays, meters...)

Agreed on the grouping in the device list.

Recently added a Aeotech G5 energy monitor. It added no less than 12 devices which where randomly splayed out all over the devices screen.

Same with Z-wave switches... If you are adding several at a time, its very difficult to figure out which switch is which on the Devices screen. Even a simple z-Wave switch will often add 3-4 devices.

Great idea !!

device list is a mess after 10 and more devices ... adding the column where it is listed the name of the node we set under hardware will be nice too.

Love this idea. Hopefully not too difficult for someone here to implement...

Very useful! Sometimes going from adding hardware to discover the correct associated devices is a pain...

There's obviously a lot of support for this. Anyone smart enough to make it happen? I wish I could code but I am happy to help with any testing....

Well, if you can code and have some time to spare on this, that's a BIG start. Happy to assist in any other way I can (as I'm sure many others here are as well).
