Enerwave ZWN-SC7 7-Button Scene Controller, found, but not working

I included a Enerwave ZWN-SC7 7-Button Scene Controller into my network, and it joins fine, shows up in the node list, but I can't figure out how to use it for anything.

I had planned to have it turn on a scene from one of the buttons, but, after creating the scene, I hit "Add Device" from the Scene edit page, then tap the button on the controller, and the add device just times out. I have added the z-stick controller to each of the 7 network groups for the enerwave controller based on some other threads I found, but that didn't help.

Anyone have any luck with this? I also tried a Linear accessory switch for this usecase and it was the same situation: joined network fine, but completely unresponsive.

Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way?
