Hello,
I've got a (bloody) iPhone, and the presence script I wrote still regularly misses the presence.
I fixed the "cool down period" (max duration without ping success) to 1h10 and check ping result every minute - and still miss sometimes.
On the iPhone, the mail checking is set every 15 minutes.
Is there another way ? do i Something wrong in the script ?
thx
Geo

Re: Presence detection with IPhone
I use geofencing with the Pilot app. Completely reliable
Synology NAS, slave PI3, ZWave (Fibaro), Xiaomi zigbee devices, BTLE plant sensor, DzVents, Dashticz on tablet, Logitech Media Server

Yes, I use the Geofencing within the Pilot app too. No problems.
Running Domoticz on Pi3 with RFXtrx433e. LWRF power sockets and dimmer switches. Integrated my existing wirefree alarm PIRs and door contacts with domoticz. Geofencing with Pilot. Harmony Hub. Tado for Heating. Now playing with mysensors.

Pinging your iPhone is an impossible job as it turns off your Wifi when the screen is off. Even with accepting a no reply for a long time it does not work that well. Because it will not detect that you left the house.
You can use the Pilot app by purchasing the full version, or you can also use Locative (free) and trigger the switch with a json call.

Re: Presence detection with IPhone
I never had real problems pinging an iPhone.
My son used to own an iPhone, my perl script, which pinged 3 phones 3 times in about a minute also pinged the iPhone. I found out that a timeout of about 45 minutes was sufficient to keep the iPhone at home when needed.
Disadvantage is dat it takes 45 minutes to actually know the iPhone is not at home anymore.
Luckily he decided for an Android phone again, so the timeout is set back to 5 or 10 minutes.
So now the light in the livingroom is turned off after 30 minutes when he has his pc and/or ps4 in his bedroom turned on and he is home alone (or at leasdt without me and my wife).
