device safety

Post by tms5d »

When I have a look at my "devices"-section in de Domtoticz UI, I can see several devices which definitely are not mine. I can even switch them on and off. So I was wondering if one of my neighbours who might have the same Domoticz/rfxtrx433e setup like me, could do the same thing with my devices: seeing them and even worse, switching them on and off.

Is this possible, and if so, how can I prevent unauthorized switching?

Thanks!

Yes, if they had a rfxtrx433/RFLink setup then they could also control your 433 devices. If you want to stop this then you should look at adding some zwave devices.

thanks for replying, how is working with zwave-devices different from the usual 433 Mhz ones security-wise? Also interested in recommendations on decent ZWave-tranceiver hardware for Domoticz/RasPi combination.

z-wave devices create there own unique network id, if any neighbors are running z-wave your devices will ignore theres and vice versa.. and there are also additional layers of security such as encryption that is possible.. Only controllers can associate devices on the network and they typically use low power for association, they need to be within a few inches.. with any Z-Wave certified device its generally not possible to associate with devices you do not have physical access to.
