Cheap Ebay Viking/Rubicson/Imagintronix Temperature/Humidity

Post by whiteduck »

All,

Saw an eBay temperature / humidity sensor on a related forum http://lightwaverfcommunity.org.uk/foru ... -domiticz/ so decided to give it a go as it was only £7.

Firstly i had to flash the RFX firmware up to the latest and set the mode to include Viking+Rubicson and I started seeing a Viking 02035, 02038 in Domoticz Devices but it was not my one (temperature was too low) so I removed/inserted the batteries a couple of times and eventually saw my unit turn up.

BUT two issues:

1. The temperature reading is way off - perhaps decoded incorrectly - by about 8 degrees
2. If I enable Viking on the RFXCom then my HomeEasy doorbell no longer responds - deal breaker for me unfortunately.

So if anyone UK based would like to have a play with this I will happily post it free of charge - any takers? Please reply here and I will PM you for address details.

Is there a debug mode where I can see all of the messages and values coming from the RFXCom without shutting down Domoticz?

Best regards
Ian

OK all sorry I found the debug option - the HomeEasy doorbell is not picked up by the RFXCom but this is what is seen from the Viking:

subtype = TH9 - Viking 02038, 02035 (02035 has no humidity)
Sequence nbr = 40
ID = 61952
Temperature = 11.0 C
Humidity = 51 %
Status = Comfortable
Signal level = 7
Battery = OK

Hi there

Unfortunately I gave up with them due to them preventing the HE doorbell from working.
I think you could try disabling some of the other protocols but that is probably not what you want…

Good luck

Just a though - they are 433MHz right?
Do they have some sort of reset button?

So I had these working on my system a while back, bought a CH3 version and now they are not working at all - only thing I can think I did was upgrade the firmware on my RFXCOM to 189 around the same time that I bought the additional sensor

Any ideas what Ive done wrong?

For reference it's one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Extra-Sensor- ... 1788376051

Might be worth plugging the RFXCOM into a Windows PC and running the diag with different settings. As mentioned I found them to be unreliable so gave up.

Good luck!

I have 3 Imagintronix devices for some month. The reception was totaly unreliable. Sometime, I received one signal per day. I was unable to receive more than one signal per hour.

This week-end, I've checheck the antenas. The length of the copper antena is not accurate for 433 MHz devices. It should be 17cm, but is about 25 cm. So I removed the antena, and replaced it with a 17 cm copper wire. Now it's working! I receive data every 5 minutes from the 3 devices.

So if you have reception problems with this devices, check the antenna length.

I have just enable the protocol in Rfxcom settings, and the sensors appeared in unused devices some minutes later.

I've just got one of these and added it, and it's really not working properly at all.

Firstly and mainly, the current temperature it's reading in the dining room is about 64C... Not right.

Secondly, the last tie it was seen was 35 minutes ago. What's happening here?

Is it so cheap that it's just faulty, or is it actually reading Fahrenheit (which would seem way too cold anyway).

I don't know what to do, I was hoping these would at least read the correct temperature.

Is it a dud or is this how they all work?

I had to adjust my sensor by about 20c I think, try the adjustment setting in domoticz under the sensor and calibrate it with a working thermometer and see if it then holds and shows the correct temperature. You may have to adjust by -40c or so.
Regarding the last seen, or should receive a signal at least once every 60 seconds or so.
35 mind is not right, have you tried putting it closer to your receiver to make sure it's not an issue with the signal getting blocked

I've put it in a room directly next to the cupboard, and it's now been an hour since the last reading... The box goes red quite often

Just over two hours since the last reading now. I don't understand why I'm having problems with them when others say they're fine... They're obviously not
