Can't get the KAKU/COCO APIR-2150 PIR working in Domoticz

Post by PadgioD »

Hi all,

Today i received the KAKU/COCO APIR-2150 motion sensor and wanted to add it to Domoticz, but no luck.
It seems to be not recognized correctly by Domoticz, i've set the time off delay to 1 min, but when i put Domoticz in learning mode and switch the motion sensor's LEARN mode from DEL to SET nothing happens. After some retries with putting Domoticz in learning mode and switching the motion sensor's learning mode to SET, Domoticz see something.
But it is identified as a 'BLIND' control. After giving it a name and hitting the ok button, the device is added but signals are not registrated correctly or not at all.
I changed the type of the device to motion sensor, but no luck. Still the signals are not registrated correctly, only when switching the motion sensor's learning mode back and forth it will registrate some on/off signals, but when after that motion is detected nothing is logged about it. To be sure the sensor is working i also linked it to a KAKU/COCO on/off switch with a light attached.
Can anybody help me with this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
you might try adding it through scenes or groups.
See also another thread on KaKu doorcontacts and remotes.
KaKu sometimes has strange behaviour for their contacts

Hi Set,

Thanks for your reply. I can try to create scenes but I doubt if that will work because I don't receive on off signals from the sensor at all. Only when I switch the learn mode on the sensor.
When motion is detected no on or off signals are registered by domoticz.

I have got the same motion sensor and it's working fine. Leave the Learn switch to Set. Once the device shows up in Devices, add it to your switches as a Motion Sensor. As I said, it works for me. Domoticz is turning my desk lamp on when I'm approching my desk and the motion sensor is detecting it.

sorry to say, but it also does not work for me. I seemed to work :? , however I managed to learn my light-switch to respond directly to any signal from the KAKU APIR-2150. So:
  • - the APIR-2150 is working correctly
  • - the switch is also working correctly: it acts on commands from Domoticz
However, I did not get any loglines in Domoticz at all from the APIR.

I also have a door sensor (KAKU). And that works fine in combination with the light switch. Indeed, I set up some scenes in which I let the door sensor command the light. no prob!

I might set up a sniffer to see what my RFXCOM is actually receiving...

Ok, I started the only windows system i have ;) to do a bit of testing with RFXmngr (does not run under linux... :( ) The RFXcom has a faultless reception of the APIR-2150:

Code: Select all

------------------------------------------------
16-6-2015 20:19:45
Packettype    = Lighting2
subtype       = AC
Sequence nbr  = 6
ID            = 0EA442A
Unit          = 10
Command       = On
Signal level  = 6
------------------------------------------------
16-6-2015 20:19:51
Packettype    = Lighting2
subtype       = AC
Sequence nbr  = 7
ID            = 0EA442A
Unit          = 10
Command       = Off
Signal level  = 6
As you can see: 5 secs time between 'On' and 'Off', neat sequence nr

So for me it is still an enigma why Domoticz does not respond... Maybe the the USB port loses the received data?

Any suggestions? Suggestions for next steps?

I can confirm.
Since yesterday i also own APIR-2150.
Learning the device to Domoticz went flawless.
RFXcom manager sees the device go on/off even in the back garden. 15mtr from the rfxcom.

Domoticz doesn't see the device even when it is hooked up to Domoticz.
Did some testing on different locations to see if there was interference.
No matter where i put the APIR-2150 Domoticz has troubles seeing the device.
When standing next to the RFXcom the PIR is seen occasionally and when going a few meters away the device isn't seen at all.
Doing the same test with the RFXCom manager then there isn't a problem.

Have done some more testing.
Seems like the reception just sucks major of this APIR-2150.
I opened the device to see what kind of antenna it has inside.
When i saw this little metal bar it made me laugh.
So what i did i hooked up a piece of copper wire (approx 20cm) to act as a antenna.
It seems this solves my problem for now.

p.s
I covered the the drilled hole with a water resistant kit.

Are you sure the antenna is the problem? Because you say that the RFXmananger was able to see the on/off signals?
I moved my PIR closer to the RFXCom antenna and Domoticz now get signals from the PIR more often, but still not always!
So still pretty useless in my opinion, it needs to work 100%. And it does when i pair the PIR directly with a wireless KAKU/COCO receiver which directly turn on or off a lamp.

I was also strugling with a motion sensor of KAKU, an rather old type. PIR 2000 with code wheels.
At least I got it working.
First I created an virtual swich and changed it to a motion sensor. I setup that sensor with a time of 10 sec.
Then I created an scene where I triggerd with the real sensor the virtual one.
In blocky I programmed that the virtual switch wil switch whatever you want.
I do not know how to paste pictures here. so if some one need that please explane..
