[Occupation:] Software developer, concentrating on data communication and embedded devices
[Hobbies:] My work
[Platform:] Raspberry Pi
[Choise for domoticz:]
After moving in to a new rental house, I was looking for some domotica software. My requirements were that it is open sourced, has a proper structure, has abilities to extend it and preferably in a mature stage.
I started out using software of my own, but after seeing Domoticz, I decided to not re-invent the wheel and in stead enjoy a lot of functionality that I don't have to re-do on my own.
At the same time, all the extra things I want can be implemented because of the open source nature.
[My role here?] Basically, I am just a user. But if I can help out with testing, bug fixes or coding something new myself, I won't hesitate to do it.

[My role here?] To be honest I only came here to get some help - but I'd be happy to return the favour as and when I'm able!

Re: Introduce yourself
I am Justin from the Netherlands.
Hope to receive my rfxcom today so I can hook it up on my Raspberry pi2.
I am coming from the Arduino Nodo project. Very nice project. But somewhat limited.
It held me back to buy the rfxcom because of the price. But saw it has more benefits like dooya sunblinds support for instance.
Also the scripting in Nodo is becoming a mess. Especially when you have several device's.
Domoticz have a great block scripting which I can't wait to try it out.
Hope to learn a lot here.

[Name:] Poul
[Country:] Netherlands
[City:] near Woerden
[Occupation:] Programme/project manager IT infrastructure related
[Hobbies:] Photography, Gadgets
[Platform:] Raspberry Pi B+
[Choise for domoticz:] I had a setup based on Homewizard, but had severe troubles in getting the sensors and switches to work. I have been looking for a more flexible solution and read about the RFXCOM transceiver a while ago. In reading more about it, I actually stumbled on Domoticz by accident.
Have been reading a lot of the pages on the tweakers forum topic about Domoticz.
Decided to dive in, downloaded the software, bought the Rfxtrx433e and... lo and behold found my temp sensors even when they were at the other side of the house (my homewizard lost connection if they were more than 2 meters away).
I feel I now have a sound base to explore domotics on another level.
Just need to learn a bit more about linux, but will get there
[My role here:] for the time being - acting as a consumer - reading and learning

Re: Introduce yourself
[Name:] marcelr
[Country:] The Netherlands
[City:] Ehv
[Hobbies:] Energy consumption reduction, embedded systems, machine control, but also single-cylinder motorcycles from the fifties, old, uncommon fruit races, fruit trees.
[Platforms:] From development to final target: AMD/Intel-x86-64, CentOS 6 -> raspberry pi -> linux-based thermostat
[Choice for domoticz:] My final target is a linux-based thermostat that has the capability to control my boiler and radiators, through opentherm (for the boiler, it's already working (not much of a thermostat if it wasn't), and z-wave (for the radiators, that still needs some work ). If all goes well, it could, besides electricity and gas usage (already there) also log my solar energy power plant. Not much in the area of domoticz, but starting with a working platform is way easier than starting from scratch.
[My role here?] Don't know yet. To learn, mostly, I guess.

[Occupation:] IT, Systems & Network Administrator
[Hobbies:] Computers (linux) and gadgets.
[Choice for domoticz:]
In December 2013 bought a VeraLite but it died. Looking for a replacement and now that I reconsider what to buy I'm looking at a more open platform (hard- and software). The platform of my choice must support Z-Wave because of investment already done. Also have a few Arduino's from the MySensors project running.
[My role here?] Want to learn from you all and hopefully be able to help others in the future.
[My equipment:] Toshiba Satellite 17" laptop and an Intel NUC i5 (besides a few routers running OpenWRT with OneWire sensors)
[Devices:] Two Fibaro dimmers, a door and a binary sensor. A double Philio switch, Everspring switches, motion-sensor, alarm-siren.
And for the real fun: several Arduino's for motion, temp/hum, LED-dimmer and as remotes for Velux and Somfy.
