Hi Everybody,

Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this and my poor use of terminology while learning on these forums.
I am currently doing an extensive renovation to our house and thought it would be a great time to get some home automation into it. Z-wave seems pretty cool and easily expandable so thought I'd try it out. So far I'm failing, so have joined up to get a hand from those that know more.

I look forward to meeting you all, and Thanks in advance for your help..

[Choise for domoticz:]
As we bought a new house very shortly I was thinking of Domotica inside as well. Until I saw the prices (call it Investments) so it was pauzed. It started of with a couple of KaKu switches, a weather station came around, micro computers came around, etc . From this the next step was the HomeWizard initially but son found out that this was a nice thing but just not it. Until Zwave was discovered and with the experience of working with Netduino, Raspberry Pi the interest only grew. Suddenly I found Domoticz and realised this was it! Very high degree of software, relatively low budget en still amazed by what people can create under GPL
[My role here?] follower for the moment and learning hopefully helping out others soon!

[Occupation:] Student (industrial engineer automation (plc) )
[Hobbies:] technologie, movies, skydiving, horsebackriding,
[Chose Domoticz because:] simple to use and but still a lot of possibilities (Lua, Python, ... ) + remote domoticz server ( i needed this because i have 2 rpi's on different locations)
[My role here:] Learn at first, contribute after
[Equipment:] 2 x Rpi model B+ (2 times running domoticz) + 1 Rpi model 2B (running openElec xbmc) and 2 x 8 channel relais board

I am trying to implement home automation (prefer this term above 'domotica') in the house but still have to be able to let everything work without the use of domotica (not simple because all the lights uses push buttons connected to relais, I put relais connected tot the RPI (Domoticz) parallel over the push switches, this works, but the biggest disadvantage is that I cant get the actual status of the lights this way.. so if anyone have ideas/solutions for this, you can always PM me )
I dont get a lot of freedom to do this by my parents (becauste they like it the way it is ) but still I'm learning a lot by implementing the most I can in the house for when i get my own place later.

Hi There,

I registered to this forum to investigate if domoticz can provide me with a weather monitor solution.
I am currently running a Synolygy NAS DS212j.

I am looking for a setup of a local weather monitor.
The Idea is to use Davis sensors connect and monitor the data with Synology / Meteostick / Domoticz and distribute the date with a dashboard in some webpage.

Problem is that I am more a user then developer.
Sot I really need some support to give me a good start.
I would like to be more sure that I am choosing the right equipment before purchasing.

So:
Is the above the way to go at all?
Or do I miss things or should approach it in a different way?

Will this setup provide me with a proper Weather dashboard.
Is there a Step by Step implementation for such a setup, not only Domoticz but also for USB, Devices, Sensors
I read some posts about USB drivers needed to connect the MeteoStick, but could not find a installation guide for this.
I have installed Domoticz on the nas and it appears to run fine.
If i now try to create a device "Meteostick" I get a drop down for the Serial port. But I can not select it. Is that due to the missing drivers?
Can I make the Domoticz data/Dashboard accessible remotely.
Can I customize the dashboards?

Really hope you can give me a kick-start. :P

Kind regards

[Chose Domoticz because:] It's configurable to the bone, started home automation with Homeseer but for almost every new application you need to buy a plugin :x , I'm cheap.
[My role here:] Read, learn, try ..... maybe contributing.
[Equipment:] 1 Rpi model 2B (Wheezy, Domoticz, Monitorix.)+ APC UPS + NAS Synology DS108j (thinks itself it's a DS109j :D ) + Some hardware like RFXTRX433e, Arduino UNO/NANO (433mhz) + KAKU + 1 x Rpi model B+ (acting as music server (kodi). Out of order at the moment : PLCbus / Xanura.
[Future implementation:] Z-wave ,Denon AVR-xxxx.

[Chose Domoticz because:] My Vera got bricked by a "stable" firmware update, there was no quick solution to repair it. Installed Domoticz on my Odroid C1 that I paid 35$ US (Raspberry was too slow and for the price...) and added a Aeon Z Stick S2 USB and it works better and the web interface is more cutting edge (HTML5) than Vera UI7. Really, no need for an app with this kind of web implementation, added a homescreen shortcut on my Android and it is like having an native App! I really don't miss any functionality that I had in my Vera. In fact this is the opposite, I find Domoticz far better so far, and it is open source and cross platform (I use it both on x86 and arm and compile the code from source) which means I can run it on my small Linux server, no need for an additional box (talking about Vera) that has low end hardware specs... When I purchased my Vera it was expensive but now the price is more competitive I've seen. Still I prefer open source all the way!
[My role here:] Read, learn, comment and contribute to development
[Equipment:]
Gigabyte Brix Server with Core i3 16GB RAM 256Gb SSD Linux Mint, used as main internet gateway & router + firewall + web server + vpn server + application server, also currently running my main Domoticz controller for rapid development (faster to compile than ARM), Aeon Z Stick S2 USB for my ZWave network of devices
2 x Odroid C1 (one is used as a secondary Domoticz controller, and for prototyping)
1 X Odroid U3
NAS Synology DS413
Everything on UPS
Arduinos Pro Mini (user mainly for MySensors)
Oscilloscope, Soldering Station, Variable Power Supply, etc...
Other PCs, laptops...
[Current implementation:]
Using Domoticz mainly with existing ZWave devices.
Started to play with MySensors and implemented a sensor using MySensors to control my HVAC using PWM/ECM to control the brushless motor, works well so far.
[Future implementation:]
Read more temperature sensors in the entire house (built using more MySensors NRF24L01+ radios that I ordered) and vary the heat demand and fan speed in a better way than my current "dumb" thermostat.
