Sharing my how-to migrate Hue Bridge v2 to Hue Bridge Pro

Post by gbonny »

Here are the steps I followed for migrating my Hue Bridge v2 to Hue Bridge Pro under Domoticz 2026.3.
This method preserved all devices from the old to the new Bridge (no need to replace devices). Hope it helps others in the future while migrating.

- Snapshot Domoticz in hypervisor (i.e. ESXi/Proxmox)
- Make a backup op Domoticz in Domoticz Settings and store it locally
- Write down your Hue Bridge v2 username/token + ip address and other settings from Domoticz Hardware
- (do not disable your Hue Bridge in Hardware)

- Make sure your Hue-app is up to date
- Make sure all your devices including bridge are up to date in the Hue-app
- Write down your zigbee channel (bridge info in Hue-app - normally the channel is untouched during migration)

- Migration currently requires a Hue account, create it via the Hue-app
- With a Hue account you have to register/define your "House"

- Under Settings / Bridges in the Hue-app add: Bridge Pro (this option is available when you have a Hue account enabled)
- Scan QR code on the bottom of the Bridge Pro and follow steps including the migration, which can take a while (30 min.)
- Eventually reset old bridge afterwards or just disconnect it (reset can be done later).
- Make an IP DHCP reservation in your router for your Bridge Pro (as you did with your older Hue Bridge) and write down the IP address
- Reboot (unplug/plugin power) your Bridge Pro to make sure it uses the (new) IP address from the DHCP reservation
- In Domoticz hardware change Hue Bridge IP to Hue Bridge Pro IP

- Test and check everything is still working.

That's all. I successfully migrated bulbs/wallplugs/motion sensors/door contacts/chime/remotes/automations. Happy migrating!
