how to move domoticz interface from wlan to eth0

Post by willemd »

I have been using Domoticz for a long time on my Raspberry with only Wifi. The domoticz web interface is on the IP address of the wlan connection.

Now I want to use the wlan connection to connect to another machine and therefore want to have Domoticz web on the IP address of eth0 instead. I have connected the Raspberry with a ethernet cable to my router, it did obtain a second IP address and I can SSH to that IP address.

How to move Domoticz web interface to the IP address of eth0 instead of wlan? Config file somewhere?

This is done automatically by the RPi.
When you go from another computer or smartphone to website newIP:Port it should show Domoticz.

Currently I have wlan and eth0 active at the same time and connected to my network and Domoticz shows only on the IP address of the wlan.
Are you saying if I break the wifi connection then domoticz will show on eth0?

And what will happen if I then configure the Raspberry wlan to connect to the wifi of the other device that I want to get data from? Will domoticz stay on eth0?

I dont know that in detail but I think so yes. I suppose it can be only one port at one time. It is also not common (in my practice) to have both wlan and eth0 active. You normally only want 1 connection active. Perhaps you have to restart Domoticz to switch connection but I would suspect not.

I will just try. As long as I have at least one SSH connection into the Raspberry I can always go back.

Hello @willemd

You can have multiple IP addresses on 1 interface. If you want 254.
Use Google on how to do that.

If you have 2 interfaces available on your device, eth0 and wlan0, the wireless interface might be disconnected, if you connect the wired interface.
For Ubuntu see: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1271491 ... -connected

But, on my RPi3B+, which has wired and wireless interface, I have both operational with 2 different IP addresses with the same netmask.
I can use them both to access the servers running on it.

But you have to use the same port. (default http: 8080 and https: 443)

You said:

No, your web-server is accessible on the defined ports on your hardware device through any IP address that you have assigned to the available interface(s)
Now I want to use the wlan connection to connect to another machine and therefore want to have Domoticz web on the IP address of eth0 instead.
Are Domoticz and that other machine on the same network? If not, a more complex configuration might be needed.
How to move Domoticz web interface to the IP address of eth0 instead of wlan? Config file somewhere?
This is not needed, as they both will receive their IP addresses from the same router (DHCP server).

So don't worry

Thanks you both. It worked.

I had both eth0 and wlan working with domoticz visible on the wlan IP. I then disabled wlan and after reboot domoticz was visible on the IP of eth0.

I then configured wlan to connect to a wifi access point (of my heatpump unit) and, after reboot, domoticz was still visible on eth0 and I could get http data from the heatpump (Intergas Xtend)
