Alecto WS 5500 weather station
Hi
Does anyone know if the Alecto WS5500 is compatible with Domoticz?
It seems like a pretty advanced meter; inside and outside temperature, humidity, rainfall, windspeed and direction, UV index etc
Its working on 868Mhz. So far I couldn't find if it usable with Domoticz.

I've a Ventus W830, it's the same device with a different logo.
If you've set it up for Wunderground you get get your data with the wundergroud API.
All outdoor data is available.`
Unfortunately indoor temp/humidity isn't. We've to wait for a weathercloud api to get this data.

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
Hi All,
A fresh reply regarding this older post.
I've got de WS-5500 up-n-running and i received an RFXtrx868XL (http://www.rfxcom.com/epages/78165469.s ... ucts/15101) Prototype yesterday.
I wasn't able to get it to work in Domoticz and reading the tech-info on RFX.com (much to late..) I concluded that the WS-5500 was not supported (yet)
My questions about that where send in this e-mail:
I'm working with Domoticz on a Raspberry Pi 3+ (Debian).
Last week I received RFXtrx868XL Prototype. My goal was to get this to work on Domoticz and my new Alecto WS-5500 (weatherstation).
Using the information available to me I found that Alecto was Supported, however this station wasn't?
The WS-5500 supports the 868 protocol. Can you please inform me if my weatherstation will be supported, and if so, when?
Also I cannot seem to find a way to use rfxmngr on Debian. Is there anyway to workaround that without making extra costs for emulating?
One other thing. In Domoticz the RFXtrx868XL Prototype is recognized and seems to be working, however, when I want to set Mode to Alecto it seems my choice cannot be saved and it can only be done in the rfxmngr. And thats not working on Debian.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanx in @Vance,
Jan-Paul

Hi Jean-Paul,
Long story short:
Support for WS-5500 with RFXtrx868XL in Domoticz is work in progress but will surely come. The WU API is no longer available by the way.
Grtz so far to all who's interested

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
I was looking into this as well... So i understand that the WS5500 supports weather underground. Dont you get a free membership or somthing then?
Question is, does the Alecto qualify as a personal weather station?
It does look an awful lot like the Ambient Weather WS-2902B on the PWS site.
https://www.wunderground.com/pws/buying-guide
No other way through MQTT to pick up the sensors then?
Code: Select all
Your API Key
No API key. You must own a Personal Weather Station in order to generate an API key.

I have the Alecto working in Domoticz using the PWS plugin (https://github.com/Xorfor/Domoticz-PWS-Plugin).
Works like a charm

I can confirm that. It's the only plugin I still use in Domoticz.Huis1 wrote: ↑Wednesday 19 April 2023 17:40 I have the Alecto working in Domoticz using the PWS plugin (https://github.com/Xorfor/Domoticz-PWS-Plugin).

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
The communication paths of an AlectoWS5500 can be summarized as follows:
- Sensorhead <> Console = 868MHz
- Console <> LAN/Internet = wifi/2.4GHz
It may cause some confusion, but in the previous messages you see a mixing of 2 approaches:
a. listening to the 868MHz-channel,
by means of auxiliary equipment such as RFXtrx868XL.
It has the advantage that with suitable firmware you can operate without the WS5500-Console, directly to Domoticz.
b. linking to the Wifi-interface,
which is the channel towards WUnderground and which is also an interface for tappping data for Domoticz.
No need for an auxiliary receiver on 868MHz.
For the 1st approach, if the device is unknown for RFXtrx868XL, then it will be needed that the developer of the firmware of RFXtrx868XL gets sufficient representative data-loggings from the receiver to see what is required.
For the 2nd approach you just use the software from Github as described in the previous 3 messages.
Note to answer the question on upload to WUnderground and other organisations:
if you upload to WUnderground the data from your PersonalWeatherStation, then you are entitled to a free API-key.
Just register at the WU-website for setup of the account and to get the required information to enable the upload, such as API-key.
The above setup with a socalled 'Contributor-Plan' is usual for many organisations:
some organisations require payment for extra services beyond the basic setup.
Alternatively you may upload from Domoticz to WUnderground and to many other organisations, with scripts etc.:
browse this forum and the internet to find the reuired setup-info and the required software.

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
The WS5500 is already fully supported by the RFXtrx868XL and RFXusb-RFX868.
The latest firmware supports also some Ecowitt sensors and Itho and ORCON WTW.
See http://blog.rfxcom.com/
Weather sensors can be received for example and Itho/Orcon can be controlled with one RFX. For a transmit command the RFX switches to Itho or Orcon mode and switches back to receive.

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
Hi,
I have also a Alecto WS 5500 weather station. The data from this station is sent to Weather Underground every 5 minutes. I also see my data in Domoticz, this data is retrieved from Weather Underground. I have two questions, hopefully this is the right chain:
1. The data in Domoticz is refreshed every 10 minutes. Is there a way to decrease this to 5 minutes?
2. I’m thinking to use the PWS plugin, then the data is not sent to Weather Underground anymore but to my Domoticz. Is there a way to send this data to both, Domoticz AND Weather Underground?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
Yes, that's possible.
I have a refreshment every 60 seconds using the PWS plug in. I also use wheatear underground as a backup.

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
Hi Huis1, thank you for your answer. You use Weather Underground as backup, how have you arranged this? With the PWS plugin you send the data of your PWS to Domoticz, but how do you send this data also to Weather Underground?
Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
An account by wheather underground is apart of Domoticz. I Googled it and it works. It's not very difficult.

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
I know Weather Underground (WU) is apart from Domoticz. Currently I send the data to WU, but as I’m going to use the PWS plugin, then the data will be sent to Domoticz and not to WU anymore. Do you send your data from Domoticz to WU? If so, how?
Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
By using the WS-view app and follow the steps to configure it. Just do it. It's easy

Alecto WS 5500 weather station
Sorry, this is not the issue. I used the WS-View app to send the data of my PWS to WU. If I’m going to use the PWS plugin, then I should use WS-View again to send the data to Domoticz, but then the data is not sent to WU anymore. Or can you configure multiple targets with WS-View? Or is updateweatherstation.php doing the job?

Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
@Huis1, thank you for your help. I wasn’t aware that is possible to configure multiple targets with WS-View.
It looks like https://github.com/Xorfor/Domoticz-PWS-Plugin doesn’t exist anymore. I found this alternative: https://github.com/kovariktomas/Domoticz-PWS-Plugin
Unfortunately, this code contains errors and the names of the devices are in Czech. I was able to fix the errors, so the flow is working fine now. But do I use the right version of this plugin?

@Kedi, /weatherstation/updateweatherstation.php is the default value in the app WS-View, I don’t think this information is used in the plugin, or am I wrong?
Re: Alecto WS 5500 weather station
I've already installed the PWS plugin of Xorfor. I checked and you are right. It's gone of GitHub. I'm sorry. Glad you fixt the other Plug in you've found and got it working. Great!! Glad I was helpful.
