Just a question about running/installing,building when the pi account is not there as standard anymore

Post by mcmikev »

Hi,

Just read on a dutch techsite (https://tweakers.net/nieuws/195418/rasp ... pi-os.html)
that new setups with raspberry pi and raspbian OS do not have the default user pi anymore.

During setup you must create a new user.
I guess that this will interfere in the domoticz setup, installing, compiling.

So my question is : Will domoticz run under any created user account, and what group membership must that account have?

I think it is better to know what and how before it comes to this new setup, then running into issues.

Hope it is okay to post this info in dutch.

You are asked to create a user. This can be a user called pi even with the default password raspberry
See the offical announcement from Raspberry https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/raspbe ... pril-2022/

I run domoticz in a debian 11 container using my default user name, which isn't pi, with no spotted ill effects. It ran on a full fat ubuntu 20.04 server vm previously, the user was not pi on that either. I don't build however, just use the curl installation method.
