P1 smart meter remote location, how to connect
Hi all,
House renovation, new challenge. My P1 smart meter is located in the hall, where the pi running domoticz is as well. Connected via USB. Now I want to move the pi to another location. Is there a way to get the data from the smart meter to the pi running domoticz located about 10 meters further?
All for the greater good of the WAF
Maybe a second pi connected to the smart meter with some master-slave config of domoticz? Any ideas? Suggestions? I guess I am not the only one having this challenge.
The first pi has an rfxcom xl connected as well. Moving it to the new location would improve coverage as well by the way, so win-win.
Connection must be without cables by the way, no easy access below flooring due to insulation.

Re: P1 smart meter remote location, how to connect
Great, thanks!
Should I add new hardware for this wifi device, or can I change my existing hardware (p1 smart meter usb) to p1 smart meter with lan interface?
Will my devices connected to the smart meter remain the same so I keep all existing data from them?
Questions questions

Re: P1 smart meter remote location, how to connect
You will have to create a new P1 smart meter with Lan hardware. It will create new devices. Then on the old device click on edit - replace and select the new device. All the history of the old device will be placed into the new device (on Domoticz beta it will be the other way around). The old device will be deleted by the replace action.
Then you can remove the old P1 smart meter USB hardware.
Then you can remove the old P1 smart meter USB hardware.

Hello @Kranendijk,
The most simple solution would be a USB cable of 10 m.
As for USB 2.0 the maximum length is limited to 5 m and for USB 3.0 the maximum length is 3 m, you need some kind of amplification.
These cables exist. See e.g.: https://www.allekabels.nl/usb_accessoir ... meter.html (As you are Dutch)
The only requirement is that it is possible to install that cable between your Smart Meter and the new location of your Raspberry Pi.
In this case no worries about your devices in Domoticz.
An alternative would be a wireless connection (if wired is not possible).
Therefore you do not need a fully equipped Raspberry Pi 4, as a simple Raspberry Pi zero W (or the new Raspberry Pi zero 2W)is enough.
See e.g.: https://www.ciscozine.com/build-console ... raspberry/
This unit can be installed close to the Smart Meter and can be interface with you new placed Domoticz.
Regards

Re: P1 smart meter remote location, how to connect
No need to worry about the history, great
USB unforunately is not an option, at least not without drilling in my concrete floor… Raspberrys are made of unobtainium at the moment it seems.
On the www I found this plug and play little box. Seems good to me, and it saves me an evening of soldering and cursing
Anyone experience with it? If not then I’ll be the first to share them. Description is in Dutch by the way.

There are two ready-made ESP8266-based devices interfacing with the P1 port that I'm aware of :
http://www.esp8266thingies.nl/wp/p1-wif ... parasitic/ (the one I'm actually using)
and

Ordered the little box. Let’s see if it does what it claims to be.

Re: P1 smart meter remote location, how to connect
I have two of these in two different houses and they work flawlessly. They are so small, that they fit under the green cover of the P1 port on the meter itself. One of my energy meters is located in the hall, without a cabinet around it, so I'm really happy to not have wires hanging out of the meter.Jieffe wrote: ↑Saturday 22 January 2022 19:07
