Popp Z-Rain Rain Gauge

Post by jacobh »

I bought a Popp Z-Rain Rain Gauge and added it to my Domoticz instance.
Can somebody tell me what values are reasonable to use as settings in Domoticz for this gauge, because using default values currently does not generate any signal or measurement when its raining. Despite the information under the fields, its not really clear to me what values are appropriate to use.

This is what my Popp Z-rain runs with for over a year now........
The first field you can ignore, you start with zero, you don't have to do anything with it, does not matter.

Your wake-up interval seems a bit high, nice for battery life, but it is not so good for knowing if the Z-rain is asleep or dead/malfunctioning, but still it should work with you settings. Even with this settings it should send you data when it registers rain, when the rocker tumbles over at least 1 time.
Very small amounts of rain it does not measure. If the rocker only flips ones, it will register as 0mm. This is correct. If it rains some more in a short time you will get more mm's, always increments of 0.5mm of rain.

Does you z-wave network communicate with you Popp Z-rain, what does Domoticz say at "last seen", and does it show up at the "neighbours tab"

Don't know if it is a useful for you but....just a strange thing regarding my Popp z-rain.
I have to add my z-rain to my z-wave network in range of the z-stick controller. I can not get the z-rain added when I am out of reach of the z-wave controller but in range with my range extender.
When the z-rain is added to my z-wave network, it works fine, then I can put it on my shed where it is only in range of the range extender.

This is normal behavior for all z-wave devices: the inclusion process can not be routed through the mesh network. To be included any device must be close to the controller (or the controller close to the device ;) ). Don't know why this is, but it seems to be intentional. Once included, you can put the device further away from the controller. Just be sure that it is still near a routing device which can communicate with the controller. Most ac-powered devices are routing devices. After you have moved the device to a new location click the the green plus sign in the z-wave nodes list once, then wake up the node (usually there is a small button on/in the node that you have the press once). This makes the other nodes in your network and the controller learn the new route to your new node. I say to click the green plus only once, because it will take a long time before the refresh is actually finished and you won't get any notice. If you click it many times because you don't see a response and you're impatient, you will only flood your network and your controller, decreasing the chance of success on the refresh.

This rain guage doesn't send any updates to domoticz if there's no rain. Because of this it shows with a red top bar most of the time when it's dry, as if it were "dead". The device will however send an update when there is anything to report: do ignore the red top bar.

Thanks! This is indeed helpful.
Last seen is showing current date/time and it does show in the neighbours tab, connected to the ZW090 Z-Stick Gen5 EU controller.
