best remote control for blinds

Post by coppess »

Hi all,

In the house i'm living in are electronic blinds installed. You can shut them with a switch on the wall. Offcourse I want to be able to controle these blinds from Domoticz. I allready have an RFXcom transciever (E version).

I was wondering, in your experience, what the best controller is to install. I've seen these:

Klikaanklikuit:
https://www.elektramat.nl/klikaanklikui ... LEQAvD_BwE

But also this one from Somfy:
https://shop.somfy.nl/inbouwontvanger-r ... -rolluiken

Which one will work the best, or is it better to switch to zwave or zigbee?

Thanks in advance!

I honestly have no experience with the Somfy, so i can't give you an advise on that one.
But i'm using the KaKu switch for several years now and i am very satisfied.
I use it to control my outdoor sunscreen and it works like a charm.

When 'Buienradar' tells that it's going to start raining, it will automatically put the screen up to protect it from rain.
I still wish to automate it, using my weather sensors. But i haven't discovered how to achieve that yet.

Maybe another option, the shelly 2.5 they work on wifi and mqtt
I have 4 of them, working without problems.

I would not take the somfy.
Not because they are bad, but not much info to find about those and working with domoticz. I have the somfy tilt 50, had them with rf-link, but it didn't worked how i wanted them to work. Removed the rf-link and controlling a somfy remote with espeasy. Just because i could not find information about it. Also connecting the somfy device to the rf-link, lets say it worked but i found it not easy do to
Thin-client --> Docker Domoticz main environment
Pi3A+ --> Google home (GAssistPi)
Pi3B+ --> Docker (P1monitor, Domoticz test environment, Ubiquity controller)

Thanks for your replies guys!

I never heard of the shelly, but it sounds interesting. I will look into that!

Did you just replace your old switch (like the attached one), with the kaku?

On the shelly i connected the motor to the shelly. And the old switch is also connected to the shelly. This gives the oppertunity to control the blinds by hand and by domoticz. Keeps my wife happy :D

Hi,
I was wondering, in your experience, what the best controller is to install. I've seen these:
You have multiple solutions.

1. Somfy

I do not have any experience with Somfy, but the brand is very well supported.
However it uses a different frequency (433.42 MHz) and therefore you need a RFXCom transceiver (RFXTrx433E or RFXTrx433XL), as they support both 433.42 MHz and 433.92 MHz. I do not know, how good the RF-Link supports Somfy and 433.42 MHZ.
It is maybe a problem that @hoeby encountered.

2. KAKU ASUN-650

I recently supported a user to integrate this device with Google Assistant.
See: https://www.domoticz.com/forum/viewtopi ... UN#p250611 (posts from June 5, 2020)

As the communication is one way (433.92MHZ with RFXCom) the ASUN-650 does not work with percentages, so you cannot use the device "Blinds percentages" hardware. The solution below has more possibilities. A ASUN-650 device, you can buy for approx. 27 Euro.

3. Shelly 2.5

As @hoeby described this device is ready for it and support "Blinds percentages".
With @hoeby a nice flow has been created.
A Shelly 2.5 you can buy for approx 23 Euro and works on Wifi (2.4 GHz). It has 2 way communication, of course.
See: https://www.domoticz.com/forum/viewtopi ... lit=Shelly

As with all wireless devices, check that the field strength is sufficient on the spot, where you intend to install the device.

In short: Your question, shall I go for solution 1 or 2, I would say, take 3 :D

This helps me a lot, thanks!

I must say, the Shelly is almost to good to be true. Cheap, supports percentages blinds, two way communication and wifi. I wonder if there are no disadvantages at all!

So the only thing I need with the Shelly, is an mqtt controller? That's fixable with a virtual machine!

You need Node Red as well. If you want to use Windows, see: https://nodered.org/docs/getting-started/windows.
Mosquitto (MQTT) is also available for Winsows: https://mosquitto.org/download/

If you want, you can flash Shelly 2.5 with Tasmota. See: https://tasmota.github.io/docs/devices/Shelly-2.5/

I had the rf-link with the somfy frequency. That was not the problem. But when i want to control the tilt 50, 1 command moves the venetian blinds by 2 degrees. Needed to give 30 or 40 commands to go from close to open. Indeed there is enough support on somfy. But not on domoticz+somfy, that kind of support is not that great (that's my opinion)
