onstart failure handling

All,

Need some advice: in a plugin, I do some setup during onstart (reach out to a device, collect some info). Every now and then, onstart fails due to a remote device being temporarily unavailable.

I am trying to decide how to best handle this: keep a status and call onstart again further down the plugin in case of initial failure? Reinitialise in onstart but run the risk of locking the system...
