Compatibility Zigate and Synology nas

Post by twoenter »

hi guys,

Is it possible to use the Zigate TTL https://zigate.fr/produit/zigate-ttl/ with a Synology NAS? Does it communicate with domoticz out of the box (with plugin) or do I need a WiFi version of the zigate?

thanks

Yes it does, this could be tricky if you are not ready to play with terminal and some manual installation.

thanks for your fast answer,

Yes, I can play with the terminal, no problem. So I don't need drivers etc? Plug it in Synology and install domoticz plugin thats all? In that case I'll order a zigate ttl tonight.

You just need to install the right Domoticz version on the Syno. Make sure that you take the one with Python. Then you'll have to install the Python libraries on the Syno as well as Git

Then it should work.

Between the Wifi and the USB, I would probably ask you where is your syno located. in the center of your home or on onse side. If not really in the center, and if you can have the Wifi-Zigate on the center, this might be better from a Zigbee netwrok coverage. Anyway Zigbee rely on Mesh and for that you need also main powered devices to mesh

Good point.

My syno is at one side of the house. But all the sensors I have are in less than 9 meters distance, 3x aqara body sensor, 3x aqara temp+hum and 1x aqara door sensor. I also have a xiaomi gateway. Can I use it to make the mesh better?

No you cannot use the Xiaomi Gateway, it is the Xiaomi Gateway or the Zigate.
I suggest that you go like thate, you might have to put one or 2 Routers somewhere ( Ikea Bulb or Ikea outlet) would make the trick to mesh a bit more

Hello,
I'm also started to play with Zigate and Synology DS218+. I have installed Domoticz, Python, Github. Installed Zigate plugin as described here:
https://github.com/pipiche38/Domoticz-Z ... .md#update
So plugin isntallation command showed this:

sh-4.3# git clone https://github.com/sasu-drooz/Domoticz-Zigate.git
Cloning into 'Domoticz-Zigate'...
remote: Enumerating objects: 191, done.
remote: Counting objects: 100% (191/191), done.
remote: Compressing objects: 100% (138/138), done.
remote: Total 9226 (delta 126), reused 115 (delta 53), pack-reused 9035
Receiving objects: 100% (9226/9226), 10.92 MiB | 10.23 MiB/s, done.
Resolving deltas: 100% (6193/6193), done.

It created „Domoticz-Zigate” folder under „plugins”.

sh-4.3# dir /volume1/domoticz/plugins/Domoticz-Zigate/
00-UPGRADE-FROM-STABLE-4.0.md Conf Data LICENSE.txt Modules plugin.py ReleaseNotes.md Tools Zdatas
Classes CONTRIBUTING.md images MANIFEST.in OTAFirmware readme.md Reports www

I restarted the NAS but I still can’t see Zigate in the Hardware list. So I’m stucket in this step.
Could you help me what did I wrong or what could be the issue?
Thanks!

The plugins folder is located in /usr/local/domoticz/var/plugins on synology!

Hello,
Ok. Installation article needs some update. :)

Anyway, unfortunatelly It didn't help.

Plugin installed in the folder you suggested:

sh-4.3# git clone https://github.com/sasu-drooz/Domoticz-Zigate.git
Cloning into 'Domoticz-Zigate'...
remote: Enumerating objects: 334, done.
remote: Counting objects: 100% (334/334), done.
remote: Compressing objects: 100% (237/237), done.
remote: Total 9369 (delta 229), reused 197 (delta 97), pack-reused 9035
Receiving objects: 100% (9369/9369), 11.77 MiB | 10.41 MiB/s, done.
Resolving deltas: 100% (6296/6296), done.

sh-4.3# dir /usr/local/domoticz/var/plugins/Domoticz-Zigate/
00-UPGRADE-FROM-STABLE-4.0.md Conf Data LICENSE.txt Modules plugin.py ReleaseNotes.md Tools Zdatas
Classes CONTRIBUTING.md images MANIFEST.in OTAFirmware readme.md Reports www

I have restarted the NAS
Zigate still not visible in the HW list. :(

Are you sure to have installed the Domoticz version including python ? in other term you have to install :

Domoticz Stable V4.10717 for DSM 6.2 with Python or Domoticz Beta for DSM 6.2 with Python

Does the Domoticz/plugins directory was existing ? Any other folders there ?

You are right, the wiki page is out of date for synology. Maybe I can help to up date it?

Installed the plugin yesterdag on my DS216j:

Image

Commands:

Code: Select all

cd /volume1/@appstore/domoticz/var/plugins
sudo git clone https://github.com/sasu-drooz/Domoticz-Zigate.git Zigate
stop/start domoticz from package center in DSM and then:

Image

Because of sudo you need root!

@twoenter, of course it would be really kind of you to contribute to the update of the wiki page. I have built it with some information collected along the web, so as you have the real tested meat, please do so. You should be able to submit a Pull request

Plugin folder was there already. No other folder in it only Domoticz:

admin@NemdumaNAS:/volume1$ dir /usr/local/domoticz/var/plugins
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 1 domoticz root 30 Jun 12 23:53 .
drwxr-sr-x 1 domoticz root 230 Jun 13 00:00 ..
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 398 Jun 12 23:53 Domoticz-Zigate

Domoticz about shows the following:

Version: 4.10717
Build Hash: b38b49e-modified
Compile Date: 2019-05-09 13:04:08
dzVents Version: 2.4.19
Python Version: None

Ooops, it seems no python installed. I have installed Synology Python package (3.5.6-8) after Domoticz installation. Isn't that right package?
Is there any Domoticz package with Python together?

Thanks,
Janos

I have found this:
http://www.jadahl.com/domoticz_stable_6 ... apollolake
I removed old Domoticz package and installed the above one. Domoticz won't start. Now I'm lost how to fix this. :(

After you have installed python 3 package from synology, you have to install domoticz with python support from here: http://www.jadahl.com/domoticz_beta_6.2_python/
or stable if you want: http://www.jadahl.com/domoticz_stable_6.2_python/

Install this python package: https://global.download.synology.com/do ... 1-0108.spk

Success!!! :)
So basically this issue was that I used Domoticz package without Python. Then I uninstalled this verion and Python 3 package too what was a mistake. This is why Domoticz+Python package failed to start. After installing Python 3 package Domoticz started. Plugin installation was also successfull. I added Zigate and what I see now in HW list is:

What are these two devices? I'm sorry for the silly questions but I'm poor beginner. :)
Thanks!

Excellent news !

And indeed, @waltervl is right those 2 widgets are createdby the plugin to give you some information. We are currently on a Web Administration page for the plugin which then will be replacing those

Yeah, I was happy about that. :) Meanwhile I was added a Xiaomi temperature sensor. It works well. What made me happy again.
It's like the first steps for a baby. :)
Wiki needs definitely some update about proper packages and installation steps.
Thank you for the help all of you so far. I believe there will be more questions soon. :)
