serial control with projector (optoma)

Post by devros »

hi, all
i want to conect domoticz with my optoma HD25e with serial conection (should be similar for other projectors with com too), to switch on switch off, but still cant figure out how to do it right (i miss propablly something stupid :)).

here is manual with described pins and commands (https://www.optomausa.com/uploads/manua ... -en-US.pdf)
- Figured out pins on serial for TX, RX with tester (2,3 on serial port)
- used FTDI conector conected to USB port (attached rx and tx and gnd to pins from cutted serial cable)
Configured screen to right setting, (baud rate 9600, bits 8 parity none stop bits 1). But when i send command to switch on or off command serial answer only some garbage characters message (but it answer when i send some command)

Any idea what could be wrong ? Could it be because wrong woltage between USB and serial port ?
thanks for any ideas

Hi
I'm very interesting by your work because I'm trying to do the same thing with my videoprojector too(sanyo)
I've tested my serial connection/command with python command file with serial package directly with command line on a raspberry pi 3.

Now, I don't find the way to add a "USB->serial device" on Domoticz, How did you add your "USB" connector to serial in Domoticz?

How did you see your command returns? is it in Domoticz log?

@devros and @syrhus,

I control an Epson projector via a serial cable from Domoticz.

I used a GlobalCache iTach (http://www.globalcache.com/products/itach/ip2slspecs/) to convert IP to Serial (the projector is a long way from the Projector) and I use a Python Plugin to expose the projector in Domoticz and sychronize the status. The iTach isn't cheap but works very well.

I also tried creating a custom cable but ended up having to go with a 15m one from the internet.

I can post the python if it would be useful.

Thanks @Dnpwwo

I've already look at this GlobalCache device but too much expensive for my needs.
Finaly, I learned how to create a domoticz plugin and I get now my own plugin to send serial command to my bluray OPPO 203 and I created another one for my Sanyo video projector.
I'm using a USB->Serial adaptor (PL2303) on my raspberry pi 3 through a USB hub.
With the OPPO, eveything works fine.
About the VP, I have to build a service port with a mini DIN8 now to be able to check the connection with the VP as this is not a "standard" sub-D9 :?

So @devros, if you are insteresting to control your optoma projector, I can give you my plugin; you just have to change the command and that'is it ;)

Hi. Can you share your plugin for Optoma projector ? Can the same be used for network control also ? Since some of the Optoma projectors have it.
