Update via webinterface to 2025.2 troublesome on raspberry pi
hi all,
Although I work for many years with Linux and Raspberry's consider myself a beginner. Anyhow.... Noticed earlier this week the update in the web interface, today I hit update.... After a while I realized Domoticz did not come up properly, one of the blinds didnt open as scheduled. Checking the status of domoticz its up but some service seems not properly running:
● domoticz.service - LSB: Home Automation System
Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/domoticz.sh; generated)
Active: active (exited) since Thu 2025-10-16 09:22:13 CEST; 2h 2min ago
Docs: man:systemd-sysv-generator(8)
Process: 20773 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/domoticz.sh start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Oct 16 09:22:13 domoticz systemd[1]: Starting LSB: Home Automation System...
Oct 16 09:22:13 domoticz domoticz.sh[20773]: /home/pi/domoticz/domoticz: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Oct 16 09:22:13 domoticz systemd[1]: Started LSB: Home Automation System.
~
Raspbian is running on Buster. Rasbian seems up to date. Have already tried restart of domoticz but without effect. Am a bit lost now....
Thanks in advance, and regards Jeroen

You're not the first to have this issue. Check these links in search result: search.php?keywords=openssl

aaarg! Dont expected that when I hit ok..... Hope I can manage to rollback, and afterwards prepare a fresh usb with the latest OS and domoticz. As always not the most ideal timing to say at least, at least we have a Somfy remote for the blinds

You should read the release notes!
They are posted here for a reason.
I don't like it either that Debian is not backwards compatible.
This means when a major release is released that we (Domoticz) have to stay on a very old Debian,
or we continue making it work with the latest
You don't have this issue when you are using docker compose.
I am sure you have read here 100 times this

Re: Update via webinterface to 2025.2 troublesome on raspberry pi
i read the updates mentioned in the web GUI, maybe I was to quick and overlooked?
Surely its a good lesson not to update prior checking the full release notes.
Trying to find a downloadlink to the 2025.1 to get Domoticz at least working again, but having issues there. Mbliek's instructions on this website: https://wiki.domoticz.com/Going_back_to ... us_version result in a 404, the github tgz gives an error
tar xvfz domoticz_linux_armv7l.tgz
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
Any clue where to find the 2025.1 in a way its easily rolled back?

Maybe easier to upgrade your system to Trixie?

Re: Update via webinterface to 2025.2 troublesome on raspberry pi
think so, after db backup doing it in an alternative way than the website mentioned by pi imager to have a clean install.
Would you recomend the docker way? How should we expect the learning curve (just know a very little bit of docker, never worked with it)?

Re: Update via webinterface to 2025.2 troublesome on raspberry pi
yesterday afternoon performed a backup of DB to external device. Updated the USB stick in use on the pi3 to Trixie. This (late) evening installed domoticz (after some short ssh trouble on the windows machine, fixed by removing the 'trusted' hosts file), and after some attempts managed to restore the backup db on a non running domoticz. After starting domoticz it looks like business as usual.
Very happy that I managed this relative quick
Thanks all for your assistance, and must say I am glad now for this unpleasant and unexpected learning experience!

Re: Update via webinterface to 2025.2 troublesome on raspberry pi
I has the same problem and did not read the release notes. Luckily the upgrade process makes a backup from the relevant files in the domoticz directory.
I renamed the erroneous domoticx directory, created a new one and restored the created backup in the newly created directory.
It works again, but the database is malformed. Will restore a database backup and restart.
Restored the last hourly backup and I miss only a few minutes of data.
Will read the release notes later and retry the upgrade.

I have the same problem. Tried to update to Trixie but still in version 10 (buster).gizmocuz wrote: Thursday 16 October 2025 15:05 Maybe easier to upgrade your system to Trixie?

Do I need to update to 11, 12 and then 13?
After that update will Domoticz work again?
