identifying z-wave devices from hardware

Post by TSkar »

Could we get identity from z-wave Hardware page in Device page? ..or some other way to determine wich hardware a device is part of?
When installing z-wave devices a complete update on all devices is slow - it can take hours to a day, and some are less intuitive in the description.
The way devices is auto-added now, we have no way to determine wich hardware device something belongs to, when adding multiple devices.

..unless I'm missing something obvious, if so please enlighten me.

The Zwave node ID should be highlighted in the Domoticz Device list (Setup - Devices) as shown on the Wiki https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Zwave#Include_Node

If you click on the left vertical bar you can only filter out Zwave devices to list. See https://www.domoticz.com/wiki/Setup_Dev ... ra_Filters

Thanks! I guess I'm enlightened!
Using different ways to ID a node on those pages are not intuitive at all. Why not use a consistant way to give ID across both pages?

Quite strange such a feature was not accepted: Having to go under hardware list and z-wave controller to see devices it manages... then getting the hex ID (how many people knows about hex and will understand the right figure to get, not even knowing this is a figure... in base 16?) to go back to the full device list and use filtering function and still having to deal with matches that does not always concern the hardware you target!

Not very straightforward & one consequence is always having to explain how to find devices belonging to a given hardware again & again.
At least the ability to filter using regular expressions (that will allow avoiding bad matches of current simple string search), with a few default ones, may help. Expression filling may even be triggered from hardware selection for the selected device so device list opening would directly show what users search.

If this is just a question on not adding too many stuff to devices page, this can IMO be done keeping it's current structure.

I also still very much lost as to why it is such a problem, but am not going to argue about that one anymore, as it has been pretty much "beaten to death".
... it keeps on coming up on a pretty regular basis and will so in the future...

In my own setup, I have the version where you can click on the Zwave device which then shows all Domoticz devices identified... 8-)

I kinda get the arguments from both sides.
..but a design that makes people ask for the same information a 100 times (to quote Gizmocus), is always horrible idea in the long run.
