I have done the same mod (wemos mini wired directly) and it is jumpy as well just like your gif. Did you get to the bottom of this?

I had issues with the moderntoil script as used on the wiki with command not found. This is what I did, it's a mash up of the wiki docs and ouimeaux. It's more of a personal preference and it works well for me I installed ouimeaux as per https://ouimeaux.readthedocs.org/en/latest/installation.html I ...
